Licensed Electrical Contractor — 33 Years PV Experience

Solar PV Maintenance & Repair

Your solar system is a 25-year investment. Without periodic maintenance, performance degrades — salt air, dust, bird droppings, and inverter issues can reduce output by 10–25% without you noticing. AEI provides professional maintenance for systems we installed and systems installed by other companies.

Maintenance Services

Hawaii's island environment is tough on solar equipment. Salt air corrodes connections, tropical dust and pollen coat panels, and inverters operate in extreme heat. Regular professional maintenance keeps your system performing at its best.

Panel Cleaning

Professional cleaning removes salt residue, dust, pollen, and bird droppings that reduce panel output. Especially important for coastal and agricultural areas. Panels can lose 5–15% output from soiling alone.

Inverter Diagnostics & Repair

String inverter and microinverter troubleshooting. Error code diagnosis, firmware updates, replacement of failed units. We service Enphase, SolarEdge, SMA, Fronius, and legacy inverters.

Annual System Inspection

Comprehensive check of all components: panels, wiring, connections, mounting hardware, ground fault protection, and inverter performance. Written report with findings and recommendations.

Performance Monitoring

We analyze your system's actual production vs. expected output. If your system is underperforming, we identify the cause — whether it is a failed panel, inverter issue, shading change, or wiring fault.

String & Circuit Fault Detection

IR thermal imaging and IV curve tracing to identify hot spots, cracked cells, bypass diode failures, and degraded connections that are invisible to the naked eye.

Battery Health Check

Tesla Powerwall and other battery systems need periodic health checks. We verify charge/discharge cycling, capacity retention, firmware status, and grid connection integrity.

We Maintain What Others Installed

Your original installer went out of business. Your system is underperforming and no one will return your calls. Your monitoring app shows errors and you do not know what they mean. These are the calls we get every week.

AEI services solar PV systems from any manufacturer and any installer. Our licensed electricians have worked on thousands of systems across every major brand:

Whether your system is 2 years old or 20, we can diagnose the issue, source replacement parts, and restore your production.

Post-Storm Damage Assessment

After a hurricane, tropical storm, or severe weather event, your solar system should be inspected before being re-energized. High winds can loosen mounting hardware, shift panels, or damage wiring that creates fire or shock hazards. Flying debris can crack panel glass or damage inverters.

AEI provides priority post-storm inspections for existing customers and emergency assessments for any Hawaii homeowner with a damaged solar system. Our licensed electricians know what to look for and can safely re-energize your system or flag it for repair.

System Upgrades & Expansion

Is your solar system too small for your current needs? Did you add an EV, a pool heater, or a home addition? We can expand your existing system with additional panels and battery storage, and help you navigate the HECO program changes that may apply.

Add Battery Storage

Retrofit a Tesla Powerwall 3 to any existing solar system. Backup power, peak rate optimization, and BYOD+ income.

Panel Addition

Add more panels to increase production. We match your existing system architecture or upgrade to current-generation equipment as needed.

Inverter Replacement

Aging string inverters (10–15 year lifespan) can be replaced with modern Enphase microinverters for better performance and panel-level monitoring.

Maintenance FAQ

How often should I clean my solar panels?

Every 6–12 months in Hawaii. Coastal homes and properties near agriculture or construction may need more frequent cleaning. Salt air, red dirt, pollen, and bird droppings are the main culprits.

Do you service systems installed by other companies?

Yes. We maintain and repair solar PV systems from any manufacturer and any installer. Our licensed electricians have worked on every major brand of panel, inverter, and battery in Hawaii.

How do I know if my system is underperforming?

Check your monitoring app (Enphase Enlighten or Tesla app) for production drops. Compare current output to the same month last year. If production has dropped more than 10% without a weather explanation, contact us for a diagnostic inspection.

What should I do after a storm?

Do not touch your system. Visual damage (cracked panels, shifted hardware, exposed wiring) means the system should be professionally inspected before re-energizing. Call our PV tech line at (808) 380-6845 for priority post-storm assessments.
