In 1993, Bruce Ekimura founded Alternate Energy Hawaii with a simple belief: Hawaii families deserve reliable, affordable energy solutions delivered by people who live and work in the same community.
What started as a small electrical contracting operation in Pearl City has grown into Hawaii's most comprehensive energy services provider. Over three decades, we've installed more than 59 megawatts of solar power across 10,000+ homes — while expanding into battery storage, air conditioning, solar hot water, EV charging, roofing, and general electrical services.
Through it all, one thing hasn't changed: every installer is our employee. We don't subcontract. We don't cut corners. We show up, do it right, and stand behind our work.
Bruce Ekimura establishes Alternate Energy in Pearl City, Oahu. Begins with electrical contracting and solar hot water installations.
1993Enters the photovoltaic solar market as Hawaii begins its renewable energy transition. Becomes one of the first residential solar installers on Oahu.
Early 2000sAdds Mitsubishi mini-split air conditioning to our service lineup. Quickly becomes one of Hawaii's top Mitsubishi installers.
2000sReaches the milestone of 10,000 residential installations. Surpasses 59 MW of total installed solar capacity.
2020sNow offering 7 services under one roof: Solar PV, Battery Storage, AC, Solar Hot Water, EV Chargers, Roofing, and Electrical. No competitor matches this breadth.
